Sarah stretched out on the worn couch, the afternoon sun warming her face. The novel she'd been engrossed in lay open on her stomach, the pages slightly rumpled from her fingers. The aroma of lavender from her diffuser filled the air, a soothing fragrance she’d selected specifically for this day. She had a perfect, satisfying feeling as she closed her eyes.

A sudden knock startled her. She opened her eyes. On the doorstep stood a young woman, familiar yet distant.

"Ms. Davis? Remember me? I was in your history class ages ago. I… wanted to give you this." The woman handed over a small, delicate box tied with a silken ribbon. Sarah took it, curiosity piqued.
